Help me give my students the opportunity to see what close reading practices look like with this document camera. They also need pens and highlighters.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Many people have very fond memories of their first days of school. New school clothes and backpacks filled with brand new school supplies. But this is not the case for most of my students, who often arrive with no school supplies at all on the first day of school.
While my students are excited about learning, highly motivated, and engaged in the learning process, many of them come to school with little to none of the necessary school supplies needed to be successful in high school, as well as in my classroom.
Although my students lack the necessary supplies, this does not change the class expectations. I believe that students do better in a highly engaged active classroom with a lot of interaction from student-to-text, student-to-student, student-to-teacher and student-to-audience.
My Project
Many of my students struggle with reading comprehension and taking tentative notes that can help them in writing assignments. Having a document camera and highlighters will allow students to see what areas of a text are given special emphasis, in addition to what notes can be taken in the margins to make later reference to the text easier.
My students need to be able to follow along with in the practice of annotation skills and note taking.
The use of a Epson DC-13 High-Definition Document Camera, Sharpie highlighters, and Paper Mate flair pens would aid in modeling these practices and make following along easier.
