I teach in a first grade classroom with a mixture of special education and regular education children. Our school is very large with a wide range of diversity. All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch as we are a high poverty school district.
My first graders are eager to learn and become true readers and mathematicians by the end of the year!
Each year, our students come to us with a unique skill set, and it is my mission to help my students become the best version of themselves.
My Project
My class loves the flexibility I give them of working in a spot that works best for them. Many students love to spread out on a cool spot on the tile or take a seat on a cushion in the library. However, they often ask for a clipboard to help them do their work more neatly, and I only have 4 clipboards in my classroom to pass out.
My students love the freedom to work around the room, and having clipboards for the classroom will allow them greater mobility to do so!
Having a class set of clipboards gives all of my students a chance to be flexible in their work spot choices. Students will also be able to utilize our clipboards when doing activities in the room that require movement throughout the room such as a Geometry Shape Hunt or Spot a Sight Word.
Our classroom literacy centers would greatly benefit from a pocket chart stand. In first grade, we are very focused on developing word families and working with various spelling patterns to become fluent readers. Sorting words, pictures, and sounds with a pocket chart will make learning fun and engaging for my students as it makes learning hands-on and adds a tactile component. The pocket chart stand will be a great addition to our literacy activities!
