My students are an amazing group of diverse learners in Maine. We have students from all economic circumstances, many of whom are English Language Learners. We are in an urban environment located on the coast of Maine.
Students at our school need rich learning opportunities, facilitated by knowing teachers.
Due to the various backgrounds of our student body, we are in need of materials and tools to narrow the experiential gap of our students, especially those tools which strengthen language development. Our school is an important part of our local community and strengthening our community connection is a priority.
My Project
This project is for book bins, clipboards, and storage containers. These materials allow for the classroom to stay organized, which leads to more instructional time on a daily basis.
Clipboards are a vital part of math instruction daily.
We gather at the rug to complete math word problems together and all students need a clipboard in order to partake. We also use clipboards for writing projects often. By having a class set of clipboards it also allows us to take our learning outside into the garden.
We will use the photo containers to organize my collections that are used in math for counting. This is a weekly math routine where students count collections such as marbles and shells. These photo containers will be used to organize these collections.
The book bins will be used in the classroom library, guided reading library and the students' individual book bins.
