This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My awesome students come from a high-poverty, rural area with high unemployment rates. They come with a willingness to work and learn. My school has a diverse ethnic community with a 100% free lunch program. Our school strives to promote a positive learning environment for all students. My second grade class enjoys being exposed to a variety of learning opportunities and materials in different classroom settings. It is always exciting to see their excitement when I introduce something new into the classroom.
My Project
My reading intervention students struggle with learning and remembering sight words. This struggle to read sight words greatly impacts their oral reading fluency. Students benefit most from classroom resources that provide hands on practice and interaction. I am very excited to try the clip on letters to spell words at three different levels.
Ideally, students would know these words upon entering Grade 2.
This has not been the case. These students also come from situations in which they do not receive practice and reinforcement at home. These activities will help students by providing new and additional opportunities to practice words.
