My students come from diverse backgrounds (95% minority), yet they are unified in the pursuit of academic excellence. In the school library, my students find a safe haven for achieving intellectual, creative, emotional, and social growth. Students learn marketable skills like reading, inquiry-based learning, problem-solving, and teamwork.
I teach at a Title I school in central Virginia where 100% of students can receive both free breakfast and free lunch, and about 50% of students speak English as a second language (current or former ESOL students).

My Project
My students love to play sports at school! They enjoy all kinds of competitive activities, from P. E. classes during the day to team sports after school. Many of the families that my school serves cannot afford to purchase basic clinical care products to support student athletes at home. This leaves my children unable to perform at their best, either while playing their favorite sports or in class after the game.
My school needs a supply of food and medical supplies to support student athletes, both on and off of the field.
First of all, my diabetic students require snacks and drinks that will stabilize their blood sugar prior to athletic events. Then, athletes who sustain minor injuries during the game need access to bandages, ice packs, and storage bags, which will enable them to carry home supplies to aid in recovery.
Athletes in need can claim these new supplies in the clinic throughout the school day and at sporting events after school. In a community like mine, where underprivileged children love to challenge themselves both academically and physically, having a free supply of basic clinical care products available at school opens new opportunities for success.
