At KIPP STAR, our students go to school ten hours a day, on Saturdays, and in the summer. The kids take their educations very seriously. They know that they are climbing the mountain to college, and they know that it's not an easy climb. One of my goals is to keep our kids, who sacrifice much of their free time for extra hours at school, focused on the joy of learning. This is especially important to me in reading class. At the end of the year, I want my students to read above grade level and, just as importantly, I want them to have developed a true love of reading.
This school year, my goal is for every 7th grader to read at least thirty books. I know that in achieving this goal, the kids will both raise their test scores and build upon their love of reading. However, in order for us to reach this goal, we need great books! With an amazing and diverse classroom library full of classics and the latest titles alike, I know that my students and I can reach all of our ambitious goals this year!
