Budget cuts, budget cuts and more budget cuts describes the dire situation I face as a first grade teacher. The county has continually cut resources including all of our teacher allocation money so the money I would normally spend to replace something, now no longer exists.

This year teachers at our school were asked to focus more on writing. It is something that we need to improve across all grade levels. Well, first graders are learning the very foundation of good writing skills. I decided one way to motivate them might be to let them write about our experiences. So, whether we are in class, on a field trip or working on a cool project, I am constantly taking pictures. I print the picture on a regular size sheet of copy paper and give to each student. You would be amazed how their little minds come alive. We have been practicing what to write about, how to write several sentences together about one topic (the picture) and will eventually begin creating class books for our class library as well as scrapbooks for the end of the year.

I need one digital camera to replace the camera I have been using. You can imagine the devastation I felt when my camera stopped working; hence, so did the writing! And there is simply no money in the budget to replace it this year.

Please help me continue to inspire my young writers by providing me with the most essential part of this writing project, the camera! Please don't let them suffer anymore than they have to due to budget cuts!
