Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am incredibly blessed to have the opportunity to teach some of the most energetic and enthusiastic students (or as well like to call them at our school, scholars). They are diverse in cultures, backgrounds, and interests; however, they are all incredibly curious risk-takers.
Fourth grade is such an integral year to help ensure that the love for learning continues to prosper in their lives.
My school places a heavy emphasis on college readiness, and the majority of my students will be first-generation college students. I want to be able to provide them with the best learning moments to support those big dreams of theirs.
My Project
No student is exactly like another. Research shows that “the average reading scores for America’s fourth-graders have remained unchanged over the past eight years" in addition to a widening gap between America's best readers and its worst. Student response clickers would provide the immediate feedback during a lesson to meet my students where they may be. With just a couple clicks, the data can help to pinpoint which students need additional support or others that need more enrichment. Even students who are shy to ask for help (often English Language Learners who make up over 60% of my classroom), can get assistance without needing to ask! The clickers aid in the mission to make learning possible for every student across the spectrum.
The clickers would be used to efficiently measure my student's understanding and learning progress over time as well as give them the immediate feedback to push them towards their academic goals.
The system would take minutes to analyze the data from quick comprehension "exit tickets," allowing more time to be spent focusing on differentiating instruction to meet the needs of every student. Immediate feedback also provides for my younger students the needed constant encouragement and reminders that the work they put in is continuously moving them closer to meeting goals that, for some, may seem out of reach.
