My students need the necessary organizational and storage materials in order that they may think and work with purpose. We need storage cubes, plastic containers of various sizes, book bins, and other classroom items.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As my first year of teaching is slowly coming to an end, I have loved my first class of 28 students this year. We have 20 girls (yes, 20 girls) and 8 boys, so the boys are greatly outnumbered, but we are making a great amount of progress this year. Our class averaged reading grade level has gone up an entire grade level from September to January, which is a substantial increase. As we continue to celebrate their progression, I am still aware of the need for growth in my scholars (and in myself).
My scholars all have different goals, dreams, desires, and skills; but they all wish to grow and progress as educated, thoughtful scholars and citizens.
My students, who an overwhelming majority (95%) come from low-income homes, each have specific passions and gifts. My job, as an educator, is to help them "unearth" their true potential and skills, so they may flourish in their academics and in every day life.
My Project
Being a first year teacher, I was fortunate to inherit certain books, storage containers, and other teaching supplies. With that said, I am lacking both in quantity and quality of the different methods of storage I have in my classroom.
It is common knowledge: with fewer distractions, students are more likely to learn.
If our class could receive the materials listed in this project, it would allow there to be a stronger emphasis on the true learning taking place in the classroom. By having practical, efficient ways to store classroom items, students will be able to move and operate in the classroom with a stronger, clearer sense of purpose. We need different storage cubes and bins to hold different math and literacy materials, as well as general school supplies, such as foam magnets, clorox wipes, and sharpies.
Erika Oppenheimer put it best when she said, "having a clear mind and a clear space allows you to think and act with a purpose." With your help, we can allow my students to have a clear space, which will, in turn, allow us to focus on cultivating a clear mind.
