This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is in the heart of Brooklyn, NY. It includes students from Pre-K to eighth grade, and it is a melting pot of descendants from the West Indies. The school is in a high poverty area, and about 95% of the students in the school receive free lunch. There are 18 energetic, three and four-year-old children in my class but there are not a lot of funds to enrich these students' education because of the budget cuts and although our families give us support they can't always help out financially.
My Project
I am requesting a child sized dresser and a dress up center for my Dramatic Play center. This center is very popular and all of the things there need to be sturdy because they get a lot of use. In the past I received some very cute furniture for this center and within weeks my students broke the plastic pieces off. This created a safety hazard so the furniture had to be thrown out.
PreK students get to use their imagination and build their social skills as they play and learn in the Dramatic Play center.
The dramatic play furniture I am requesting are a better quality and should be able to take the wear and tear my PreK students can place on them.
