Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Every student in my school receives free breakfast and lunch. We are located in a high needs area of Chicago.
My students are currently enrolled in a low incidence autism program that focuses on increasing independence into adulthood.
Most of the students within the low incidence autism program are currently functioning academically between pre kindergarten and third grade. My goal for my students is for them to be independent and functioning members within their communities. To do this we work on increasing academics, as well as functional skills, within the classroom and on community outings.
My Project
Every day during last period my students assist in cleaning the classroom. My students dust, sanitize, sweep, mop, vacuum, and more. Our current mops, buckets, brooms, and dustpans are all getting outdated and worn out. We are running low on cleaning supplies to mop our floors as well as maintain our classroom bathroom. My students will use these skills once they leave the high school autism program in their transitional program and in any future employment opportunities. Through donors like you we are able to offer these very necessary skills and opportunities for our students. Thank you for your consideration!
