My students need basic cleaning supplies for our classroom. A mop, a broom, some new erasers, tape, and some cleaners will really help us tie the room together!
Our classroom is a hub of educational activity in which our diverse population is expected to thrive. Our students arrive at the math classroom prepared to unravel the exciting mysteries of the universe that can be unlocked through mathematics mastery!
Our shared math classroom is home to approximately 300 enthusiastic students that represent many nations and talents.
Our students come from an extremely wide range of economic backgrounds with the majority of our students receiving free lunch. Our school is also one of the most diverse schools in Brooklyn and we are proud of it! Since our student population represents so many backgrounds and socioeconomic conditions, our academic needs are just as wide ranging - particularly in our studies of math.
My Project
Any professional designer or architect or engineer will tell you that the layout of a physical workspace impacts the student experience tremendously. Lighting, seating, table space, air quality, and decor all affect our ability to work in a calm, focused, and productive manner. According to a recent study by Forbes.com, "employee well-being is strongly correlated to employee productivity and performance and even a small shift in well-being can have a dramatic impact."
We are looking to improve the way that students in the math class feel by improving the creative work spaces in the classroom.
Contributing to the cleaning supplies available to us will ensure that our students have access to a tidy, organized, and, most importantly, safe space. Professionals in STEM careers often have well-maintained work space kept in order by professional cleaning services. We are taking steps in this direction with this project, as our teachers are ready, willing and able to maintain our space. Our students need feel that they are invested in and cared for, and they can sense these things as soon as they walk in the door.
These subtle improvements to our STEM space should make our students feel a bit more excited about entering the math classroom, and a bit more energized about collaborating in a shared space. Some brooms to tidy the floor up, along with a mop, some whiteboard erasers, and wall hooks will help us really tie the room together!
