Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 6/7/8th grade band and orchestra south of Seattle where 80% of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. A majority of our students are bilingual and thrive while bringing different cultures into our music classroom. I strive to provide music education that everyone can access, understand, and enjoy.
I came into my new classroom this summer as a second year teacher, realizing that we are lacking in many materials due to it being a brand new school.
My goal is to create a fun-filled, functioning and equitable classroom for my students.
I am passionate and determined about providing these kids what they deserve in order to achieve success in the music classroom.
My Project
Many of my students need support in purchasing reeds for their woodwind instruments. Reeds are an essential part of being in band, but can be a big expense, especially for middle school students who are generally hard on their things. Reeds do not last forever and need to be replaced, but many of my families cannot keep up with the demand.
Please help provide these students with equal access to materials such as reeds and cleaning clothes.
Getting this project funded will provide a more equitable opportunity for success in band and orchestra. Students in orchestra also need microfiber cloths to keep their instruments free of rosin dust and clean.
