Help me give my students wipes, paper towels, and tissues to keep the classroom clean and my students healthy. My students also need mounting tape to put up student work and desk shelves to organize daily handouts.
I teach 46 incredible 5th grade scholars who are dedicated to their education and pursuing their passions. Each of the two classes has a team name that represents who they are and what they aspire to be. The morning class is the Black Panthers and their self-defined core values are: Resilience, protect one another, fight for what's right, and do it all in swag. My afternoon class is the Lion Pack and their core values are: strength in unity, kings of the jungle (school), lead with pride, and grit.
I watch each of these classes live out their values each day and align them to their individual goals.
My students' average grade level in math is 3.8. They understand the hard work and sacrifice it will take to close the gap which has been cultivated by inequity. However, we focus on preventing the weight of disparity inhibiting the enjoyment from learning.
Our growing sense of community is what drives my students and I every day. We are working towards understanding individual achievement as a facet of teamwork and placing kindness and empathy in the face of disagreement and judgement.
My Project
In August, my scholars and I received some basic supplies (pencils, paper, binders, markers, etc.) from Title I funding at our school. However, in order to keep the classroom clean and organized we need some additional supplies.
5th graders are going through that wonderful phase where they don't realize they stank and they get sick a lot!
We have zero cleaning supplies in the class so the hand sanitizer, paper towels, air freshener, and Clorox wipes are crucial. Since I have little filing space, the stackable trays will allow students to pick up missed work on their own and keep my lesson plans organized.
There are also some miscellaneous supplies listed such as granola bars and mounting tape. Many of my students don't get breakfast at home and are too late to school to get their free food so it's important that I keep a stash of healthy something in class so they can get their nutrients and focus. The mounting tape is necessary to put up class projects as well as some decorations the students and I have made.
