This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are all second and third graders in a neighborhood that struggles economically. About one hundred percent of our students qualify for free lunches and breakfast. That, however, does not diminish their excitement for learning, especially if you incorporate things they like doing.
They are smart and very capable students with a true love of learning through real experiences.
The economic challenges do, however, have an impact on what they have available to help them learn. These are changing times and we have to constantly look for ways to not only keep students engaged, but also build their skills to prepare for potential future careers. We know that the future will require critical thinking and problem-solving skills, but it also requires a stronger background and understanding of science and technology. My students love hands-on learning.
My Project
Its that time of year. We have all seen it in the news. One of the worst Flu seasons on record. We are sending kids home every day. Asking parents to wash their lunch boxes and backpacks. We want to do out part and need more soft Kleenex tissues to keep out noses under control and Clorox wipes to wipe our desks and door knobs down on a regular basis.
We need more pencils so that students who run out can simply ask for one and not worry about the response they are going to get.
Here, you need a pencil, take one from the box and put it back at the end of the day.
These are all items that help create a relaxed learning environment where the students and teachers are relaxed and ready to learn.
