This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

TECA is a neighborhood, independent public charter school in the Mission District of San Francisco. Our students come from diverse ethnic and racial backgrounds from all over the Bay Area. Many live in the neighborhood and walk to school with me, but some travel long distances to get here. Ours is a Title I school with a population of mostly English language learners. I am amazed by these thoughtful, inquisitive students. They deal with all the different challenges and hardships in their lives with grace and poise. They come to school each day, eager, optimistic, and hopeful about their futures.

My students need water to lubricate their brains, however, the water needs to be clean and easily accessible in the classroom to maintain a learning environment.

They often ask to go outside to get water, but leaving the classroom frequently increases interruptions, decreases comprehension, and disrupts my instruction.

I encourage my students to make healthy choices and drinking water is one of them. Now my students will have their own reusable bottles to refill in class so fresh water can be kept at their seats. Interruptions will be limited and classroom time will increase for my frequent water goers. The water dispenser will help my students know that their needs are important but so is class time.
