Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My class is made up of one hundred percent English Language Learners in the sixth grade. They are energetic and eager to learn. Their families mostly work in the agricultural Industry of our city as fruit pickers, drivers and other professions related to agriculture.
My students face a lot of adversity growing up in an unsafe neighborhood with a lot of gang-related crime surrounding them.
Keeping them engaged in their education is key to their success! Please consider supporting them and their dreams today!
My Project
Clean drinking water should be accessible at all times! Sadly, our school was built in the 1940s and is awaiting a demolition and reconstruction. In the meantime, the classroom water has been inconsistently clean. Many students also bring plastic water bottles and the reusable water bottles will eliminate a lot of wasted plastic and the pump will give them access to water which I will bring in.
The clean drinking water is a must; in addition, I'm also requesting some new books including a class set of a beloved novel I have read aloud the last two school years.
Please consider helping with this project so our whole class can have clean drinking water, reduce plastic usage and give each student a copy of The War That Saved My Life.
The last item I've requested is a book on supporting newcomers. Last year, I had multiple students who were new to the English language and this book is intended to help support new students in their endeavor to learn English as a second language.
