This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach middle and high school band in a high-needs community. The school district is very small and is in an urban setting. Our students all receive free lunch and breakfast. Even though the school and community have financial difficulties, my students come to school eager and ready to learn. The financial hardships do not interfere with their desire to learn and be the best they can be.
I am very fortunate to teach in a district where the students want to excel and work very hard.
My Project
I am requesting a Dyson vacuum to help keep the band, chorus and practice rooms clean. The band and chorus area is the only carpeted area in our building. We don't have a vacuum that we can use when we need to do a quick clean up.
I have students in my band room for lunch and sometimes we need a sweeper to clean up if something spills.
My students love to come to "lunch band". It gives them an escape from the loud and sometimes crazy lunch room. They eat lunch then practice their instruments. Having a vacuum in our area will help keep our learning space clean.
The vacuum will also come in handy after a football game on the weekends. Sometimes the kids have mud in their shoes from the field and with the vacuum in the band room, the kids can clean it up right away. Thank you for helping us keep our learning area neat and clean.
