Our public school services a diverse population in a very low-income city. A majority of our students receive financial assistance and 100% of our school qualifies for subsidized lunch. My classes include English Language Learners, Special Education, EDBD, and mainstream students.
Due to the high poverty level, many of our families can not afford to bring tissues and cleaning supplies to school.
As a specials teacher that instructs over 550 children every week, wipes and tissues are always in short supply!
My Project
As the science and social studies teacher for the whole school, my room houses over 560 students each week! Lots of students means lots of germs! To keep my kids healthy every day, I spend a large number of after school hours wiping tables and washing floors.
The requested Swiffer stick, Swiffer pads, and disinfectant wipes will be put to good use in my classroom!
Surprisingly, the same kids that love to get dirty at recess, love to help clean up during downtime. It's amazing how the opportunity to use a few wipes can be an incentive to behave!
