My first grade level classroom is full of eager, energetic students who strive to do their personal best each day! They really love our flexible seating arrangement, enjoy working in small groups, and have become independent learners. They appreciate having the opportunity to choose the seating that best fits their learning styles with our flexible seating arrangements. We are a small Title I school with students who come from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds and have various first home languages. We work hard to instill and demonstrate kindness towards one another each day.
My kiddos work on the rug throughout the day whether it be during our morning meeting, our compliment circle LEAD time or during small group/individual work time. Our current large classroom rug is about 7-8 years old and is paper thin. Having a newer, thicker rug will be not only be more comfortable for our daily classroom use but it also gives the class another great option for our flexible seating choices. The designated spaces or squares are also a life saver for teachers! It helps children who have spacial awareness problems a nice marked space to keep their hands and feet within.
