Our school serves over 900 students in grades K-8 who live in a historic area of the city. Our staff consists of teachers who are dedicated to instilling our motto of "Si se puede" (Yes, we can) in all students.
Music is new to the school, and the community is excited about the variety of musical opportunities being provided to them.
This is the second year of having a music education program which promotes creativity while meeting National and State Standards in Music Education. My goal is to provide students with a variety of music making experiences while strengthening our school and neighborhood communities. All students deserve to be provided with the opportunity to discover what music means to them through music making activities.
I believe music can be one way to bring a group of people together. It is a way to define our identity, something that students of all age groups can use to express themselves. Offering creative outlets provides balance to people of all ages, at home, work and in the community. Music education has a tremendous impact on students' academic, social and emotional well-being.
We are in year number two of a brand new music program that started with an empty room - and we have grown to creating and musicking with a variety of instruments, props and resources. It has been an exciting year and a half for students, parents, staff and the community. We are lucky to have 17 keyboards in our room, enough for two students to share in class.
This project will provide us with enough keyboard covers to cover all 17 keyboards and keep them clean from dust and debris.
Students are taught to wash their hands before we use instruments and the proper handling of all classroom equipment to prevent them from unnecessary wear and tear. We need protective cases and covers to preserve our resources so students are able to use them year after year.
