I teach the most incredible six and seven year olds. My students come from very diverse backgrounds. Our school serves mid-town Fort Collins neighborhoods, students from a homeless shelter and safehouse, and english-language learners from many different countries. We are all so different, and yet our class feels like a family. We challenge each other, learn from each other, and love each other every day.
My students are incredibly curious, inquisitive, thoughtful, hard-working, and kind!
They help each other out, learn from each other, inquire, share ideas and hugs, compliment each other and challenge each other, and come to school eager to learn everyday. I am an incredibly lucky teacher to have such a sweet, ambitious group of six and seven year olds!
My Project
We call our classroom our "home away from home." Our room is full of unique, inspiring workspaces that encourage students to explore, create, and learn.
So much of our learning takes place together on the floor.
We hold peacekeeper circles, host our class meetings, explore with math manipulatives, get cozy on our bellies and read, and learn together with partners, all comfortably on our floor space. Our current rugs are "well-loved," and we are in need of some clean, inviting spaces to learn on. New rugs would provide our class with a comfortable place to gather and learn together.
