This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a teacher in a low-income, high poverty school where my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
I teach in a low socioeconomic area in the heart of Birmingham, Alabama.
My students come to me daily ready to learn and eager to please their teacher by doing their best work. I provide many resources myself for my classroom due to low funding. About 95% of my students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. My students would greatly benefit from these additional resources. My students are active, creative, and deserve nothing but the best!
My Project
We have several students within our school that are currently homeless or on the verge of becoming homeless. I am going to create a cabinet that the counselor and I have access to help those individuals feel like they have a place to turn to when they need something. Detergent is an expensive item and something that these families cannot afford. This detergent will help students come to school clean. Students need to be able to come to school to learn. Their home environment influences this. This cabinet of detergent will help provide a more conducive environment to make that happen.
