Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our Title I school serves free breakfast for 85% of the students, and they get to the school early to eat the breakfast that they don’t get at home. My students eat their breakfast at school each morning before they come to my class. Fuel in their bodies makes them ready to learn and start the day.
We are a uniform school, and some kids have uniforms that fit and are clean and others have uniforms that are too big, too small, and don't really look clean.
The majority of kids are happy and energetic and ready to learn, but some students have trouble staying awake and staying focused, come every day from group homes, homeless, or being raised by grandparents.
My students are 11, 12, 13, and 14-year-old boys and girls, growing, trying, creating, experiencing, experimenting, challenging, and ultimately becoming educated with art in my classroom.
My classes are all year long so I can work with these students in-depth with technology, get to know their strengths and weaknesses, likes/dislikes and see their creativity develop as their experience with art increases and grows.
My Project
This January, this Title I school will be fortunate enough to get a new laundry machine and dryer for students to wash their school uniforms through DonorsChoose.org generous donors.
This DonorChoose.org project is requesting laundry soap and stain remover for students that are homeless, live in group homes or their clothes don't get washed at home so they need a place to wash their clothes, as without they just wear stained, dirty clothes.
The parent group volunteers that support students will help with this endeavor to support students that need a place to wash their school uniform and we need laundry soap and stain remover. Students will learn how to take care of their clothes and keep them clean.
The current laundry machine and dryer in the former home education room are really old and barely work, so having a new laundry machine/dryer will be a good addition to teaching students how to take care of their clothes and we need laundry soap and stain remover for their white collar shirts. With laundry soap and stain remover this projects will be up and running and washing clothes in 2019.
