This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are 9th through 12th graders and are hard workers. Our school specializes in the education of children with learning disorders such as Autism and ADHD, with over 70% of our students on an IEP. Most of our students also come from low-income households and receive both breakfast and lunch at school each day.
While much of our focus during the day is on the core academic areas, we also strive to develop social, emotional, coping and life skills in our students.
Our low student-to-teacher ratio allows students to build lasting, positive relationships with adults throughout the school and allows teachers to get to know what works best for our students as individuals.
Last year, we moved into a new building. As part of a new building, we would like to keep our classroom looking clean and organized as well as keeping us healthy by getting rid of germs.
My Project
My students were blessed this year to receive many of the supplies needed to start a class coffee cart business. We look forward to starting this soon and are going through some training to develop smart personal habits and classroom cleanliness practices that are a necessary part of most jobs.
My students are very excited to start our coffee cart project and have recently made a list of things they will need to learn or review before we are able to begin.
As part of our coffee cart project, our classroom is in need of some additional cleaning supplies, organization supplies, and a cabinet to keep our coffee cart supplies neat and organized. My students have gotten used to the routine of coming into class at the start of the day, wiping down the tables, chairs, and computers before beginning their morning work. The Clorox Wipes will be used to wipe down desks, chairs and other surfaces in the class. The Lysol spray will be used to eliminate germs on surfaces that can not be wiped down such has beanbag chairs, carpet area and chair cushions. The cabinet will be used to house our coffee cart supplies when they are not in use. The sweeper will be great to help take care of the little bits of "learning" that are left on the carpeted area of our classroom. By helping to build independent living skills and responsibility, my students will be better prepared for life after graduation!
