I work at a Title I school where we try to put our students first.
For those of you who don’t know, being a Title I school means over 80% of our students receive free or reduced-rate lunch.
In my classroom, it’s not uncommon for my students to live with others. This means many broken families and multi-family homes. Some of my students struggle from homelessness.
I have many students with special needs such as ADHD, ADD, autism, and other learning disabilities or social disabilities.
With having a clean and defined area my students will be able to strive!
My Project
I want to make sure my students have a clean and wonderful environment.
I want to do this in 2 ways.
The first thing I would love is a rug for our classroom. My rug in my room is over 20 years old. It shows wear and is definitely not the best or welcoming place for my students. As a first grade teacher with students who are between six and seven years old it’s important to have a clean and welcoming area to learn important skills daily. This rug would solve these issues.
I would like to provide books to my students. As I mentioned previously, my students have a lot of background difficulties. Many of my students don’t have books at their homes or means to get to a library to check out books. I would love to purchase books to send home for my students to KEEP and enjoy daily!
I thank you for reading my story and hope you can help me in allowing my students to be successful and have a welcoming environment.
