My Students
I work at an alternative High School in Jefferson Parish of Louisiana. By the time our children reach us, they have gone through some tough times and have been sent to us to be put back on track. This is why our motto is "Where Second Chances Are Given." I am a leader on the Behavior Intervention team and we are tasked with helping the students to work through their issues to become the best that they can be.
What I have come to understand is that many of the kids that we serve are not bad apples, they are simply in need of services and support that they may not be able to get at home.
We provide a judgement-free zone that allows students to feel comfortable expressing what they need. Our students are bright, funny, and full of life. They are constantly surprising us and making us laugh, and we are always trying to show them that they can succeed far beyond their circumstances.
My Project
The items that I am requesting would go a long way in making my students' lives a lot easier. I have already done my best to provide items to students who have requested them. Buying snacks and sanitary napkins is something that I have done in the past, but as you can understand, I am not always able to do. These items will help me to provide items to students for the rest of the semester.
The sanitary and personal hygiene items will be given to students who may have the need but not the means in which to buy them.
The snacks and water will be provided to students who regularly ask for food and sometimes need a little motivation to stay on the right track.
You can imagine how difficult it may be for a student to express needs such as these to their teachers. They are often embarrased and may even seem angry on the surface. But underneath it all, they are kids who are asking for some kind of help or relief and I hope that you join me in trying to help the best way that we can.
