Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My sixth-grade science classes are comprised of approximately 150 amazing students, many of whom come from very diverse cultures and backgrounds. I teach a wide range of students from the magnet program, ESE students, as well as advanced and gifted classes.
Our middle school strives to provide an excellent education for grades 6-8 and provides a rigorous academic course load that is made possible by the fantastic teachers and staff who work in tandem to create a safe and accessible learning environment for all of our students.
Curious minds want to know-- all about science that is! Students at my class have the desire and passion to learn. They are motivated and full of wonder about the world we live in and the problems they will have to solve. They are the out-of-the-box problem solvers and thinkers of tomorrow.
Help me create the most engaging science classroom these students have ever encountered. From Glow Review parties to edible labs, this is a great opportunity to show them another way that learning can be fun!
My Project
My students need healthy snacks to provide them with energy to get through the school day. One of the first things I learned in my first year teaching is that if a student is hungry, school work becomes even more difficult.
Although my students face many challenges, hunger should not be something a teenager needs to worry about.
By providing snacks to my students, I have seen a tremendous increase in their effort and in the quality of their work. Many quality relationships have been built in my classroom while eating snacks. We also need a variety of cleaning products from Clorox to keep our classroom clean and germ free. Bare chips, Skittles, Keebler cookies, Frito-Lay chips are some of their favorites! These snacks will go directly to my 6th grade students and help them to stay full, healthy, and focused throughout the day.
We also need materials such as vinyl for our Cricut machine to create awesome new projects this year!
