My students need tissues, hand sanitizer, disinfecting wipes, diaper wipes and paper towels to help keep the germs from spreading and help us have a more sanitized and healthy environment.
I am a special education teacher working with students in grades Kindergarten-2nd. I provide special education support and direct teaching for nearly 20 students across the three grade levels, collaborating with the different general education classroom teachers to best meet the individual academic, social, and behavioral needs of the students.
My students come from a predominantly low income/high poverty district with high special education and ELL student populations.
The students are faced with many challenges both in and out of the classroom and often don't have the resources they need. Many of our students are being raised by extended family members or one-parent households. Our families are concerned with the day to day basic needs of their children, so extra supplies needed for school are not a top priority.
My Project
We need facial tissue and cleaning products! Living in the Midwest and the changes to the season brings on many allergies and colds which requires a great amount of facial tissue and cleaning products to help keep the germs from spreading and help us have a more sanitized and healthy environment. Even the Center for Disease Control and Prevention agree that covering your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze can help stop the spread of Influenza (flu) and other serious respiratory illnesses.
I have personally provided some supplies but due to the lack of funds available from our school and families, we will only have enough for the first month or so fo school.
We are in desperate need. Because our students love being at school and that makes our attendance level high, we need to move fast to keep the germs at bay.
