Do you remember what is what like to stretch out and be comfortable while doing your work at school? Students work harder and accomplish more when they have a comfortable and inviting place to work.
Our school is a traditional Title 1, k-5 elementary school serving 670 students.
The population is very diverse representing students with more than 20 different countries and languages. Our students love to come to school, and we try to surround them with a warm and inviting environment. Our classes are academically challenging and we try new and unique ways to implement the curriculum. We continue to meet and exceed our county academic goals by utilizing creative and unique mentoring and tutoring programs along with a dedicated staff.
My Project
We are a STEM school (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) and our focus is getting our students involved through hands on learning. We need a clean and inspiring place to gather and complete our lessons. Not every child likes to sit at a desk to learn. I like to embrace the students different learning styles and provide them an environment that will foster their best performance. A carpet would be an important learning space that would promote language as well as critical thinking and problem solving skills as we work on projects. With the lack of funds and cutbacks that school are experiencing this is something the school can no longer provide.
My classroom needs a hub, a central meeting space where we can gather to discuss, learn and share everyday.
This rug will give students a comfortable place to learn and work together. The discussion and sharing that occurs in this informal and relaxed atmosphere are just as powerful and often more meaningful than written work.
