Claymation and Watercolors: Combining New and Traditional Forms of Art
Help me give my students modeling clay to create claymation animation films, and liquid watercolors and paper to explore a new art process and techniques.
My students are eager and creative. My school is funded for art classes starting in 3rd grade. By the time the students get to 3rd grade, they can hardly contain their excitement for art class. Our school is in a rural area with a high level of poverty. A lot of my students lack basic art supplies such as crayons to use at home. Our small town is a farming and agricultural community and a lot of our students struggle financially. We are a diverse, title 1 school. I want to share the wonderful world of art with its rich history and large variety of skills with my students. Each week my students look forward to art class and all the excitement that comes with creating.
My Project
These materials will allow students to learn about the exciting world of animation and how technology can bring their creations to life. My students have never had the opportunity to work with clay before and they will create works of art that will be animated using free software and apps on digital devices. My hope is to give my students ideas to create video shorts at school and at home. Creativity transcends the classroom! In addition, I would like to show students how to use liquid watercolors to create beautiful watercolor castles on real watercolor paper and not plain copy paper. We will learn about famous watercolor painters such as Monet and discover how art has changed through time!
