My Students
The students I teach comes from a very urban setting. Some have no past art experience or use in certain mediums or materials. I want to begin introducing them to painting, clay and other great materials.
The children I teach crave guidance, new experiences and compassion.
I would love to foster this concept and provide them with what they need to become successful adults. They are looking for meaningful art projects, as the past art teachers only seemed to use paper, pencils and markers. I want to give them an array or materials to learn from.
My Project
In this project the children will be learning about different sea animals and how to protect them, such as sea turtles, fish, dolphins. We will read a book and watch a video on the affect of pollution on sea life. We will be using a air dry clay to assemble and mold little creatures based on the teachings.
The sea creatures will air dry and then they will be ready to paint.
These children have not used clay before and many have not had the chance to paint.
This project will introduce three dimensional art, and give them the concept of texture. They will also need to learn how to attach clay together and learn how the clay will dry. They will paint the clay once dry and be able to use Elmers glue to attach things like feathers, glitter, sequins.
