This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Situated in deep East Oakland, my 9th grade Art/Design students and Advanced Art upperclassmen are extremely talented. They have demonstrated limitless creativity with limited access to materials.

Given the opportunity, the 9th grade Art/Design students will design and build 3D characters using modeling clay and wire.

These materials will enable the students to practice innovation and collaboration by contributing ideas for physical attributes to a random generator. Each student will be able to use the random generator to support the design of their sculpture. The students will revise and modify their designs to meet their personal aesthetic before constructing their characters in wire and modeling clay.

My Advanced Art students have demonstrated excellent skills in 2D renderings of 3d forms. After studying historical and contemporary sculpture, the Advanced students will create sculptures which references or interrogates pop culture. They will design and build Plaster Pop Culture Sculptures using plaster strips and sculpture wire.

Once the students complete the construction of their sculptures, they will paint and prepare their sculptures for exhibition.
