Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Every school day, I am fortunate to spend time with 24 of the most curious little learners. They are eager to explain their way of thinking in math, anxious to make discoveries in science, and enthusiastic to find out where the pages of a novel will take them. Each child comes to school with their own story to tell. They are unique little humans with their own strengths and weaknesses, learning to embrace their differences.
Our 854 students come from highly diverse backgrounds with 44% of students learning English as a second language.
78% of our students are low-income families. Many of our students do not have sufficient resources at home to support academic needs.
My Project
Providing students opportunities to learn difficult concepts through hands-on, engaging, and playful methods will leave them with a desire to learn even more. Glow light classroom transformations will have students digging deep into the text to highlight evidence across the curriculum. When our learning environment becomes a racetrack built for speed, students will discover the laws of science behind force and motion. Creating a restaurant full of chefs who will have opportunities to “taste all the genres” during a book tasting is certain to fuel the appetite for a love of reading. A surgical center in room 205 will no doubt provide memorable learning experiences while building contractions, dissecting text features, and so much more. Providing students the opportunities to master concepts in engaging and memorable ways will leave them curious and eager to learn for a lifetime.
