Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I would like to furnish my class with an overhead projector and cart, thin expo markers for our mini white boards and erasers for them.
Our school population has shifted this year, with an increased number of socioeconomic issues and second language learners. These kids have less resources at home. Unfortunately, our classroom is also missing some needed materials to aid in their learning. I would like to close or at least narrow the gap between our students at Meadows and those at more affluent schools around the nation.
An overhead would help the whole first grade and kindergarten team as we can share it easily within our hallway. It helps our little ones view images by enlarging the images and words. It also allows everyone to see within the room and can be easily written on and erased. Besides, it would reduce the amount of fumes and would help us all. It makes it easier to have the students participate in front of the room without comprimising the view and learning of the class.
We currently own mini whiteboards for each student. However, we lack the markers and erasers for the students use. Large expo markers are too big for the kids to grip and don't help in their letter and number practice. Using these boards for writing and math really aid in individual attention and practice without limiting whole class exposure. As a teacher, limited time and resources hinder what I need to do. The better the resources, the better I can time manage and help everyone without skipping a beat.
All of these items would help my students get to their next academic level and continue to be successful. Their educations shouldn't have to suffer because their families don't make enough money or because our neigborhood and school don't have the fiscal resources that others' share.
