My students are in a fourth and fifth grade pull out the classroom model. We are together for three hours of the day and we learn Math, Reading, and Language Arts together. They are in fourth and fifth but they are below grade level and all have IEPs.
They are special because they have great motivation to learn but they are all on different learning levels and have many needs to be accommodated.
We are located in Philadelphia and many families are struggling to provide more for their students. The school also does not have all the materials needed to better accommodate the students.
My Project
My students come from low-income families which means they do not come to school with high-quality school supplies. This means by the middle of the year, many of them do not have their own supplies to use. Since it is my first year teaching, I do not have a large collection of school supplies from previous years for them to use. I have not been able to purchase a class set of anything for my students to use. Fortunately, they are able to share but we waste a lot of time waiting for our friends to be done.
The supplies will ensure my students will be well equipped to do any activity, writing assignments, math projects, and as well as keeping themselves clean and organized.
By having these basic classroom materials, it will help us to be time-efficient and have more time spent on learning! It will allow us to be more creative with our learning and learn through projects instead of just our textbooks. These students have IEPs and therefore, I need to differentiate the lessons to make them more hands-on. Many students prefer learning creatively.
