Mrs. Alston from Sacramento CA is requesting flexible seating through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need the natural light to come in but block the sun from shining in their face with window film and a comfy reading nook chair.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My school is mostly African-American and Latino students who come from difficult socioeconomic places. These students sometimes have stressful lives. They come to my class eager to learn but often carrying a lot of emotional baggage.
My students are amazing kids who don't have access to educational items that could absolutely change their life.
We know that education is the gateway to improving ones status in life. We know that these students are underserved in our community. As a teacher I want to change those statistics. I want to help my students achieve their dreams.
I just wanted to create this project to help my students have some supplies. I love my classroom but it is very cold and sterile. I have a reading nook with no comfy chair for reading. I also have great windows but unfortunately the sun during certain times of the year shines in their eyes. No amount of changing the seating chart will stop the sun.
In order to create a warm inviting classroom I need your help.
These students need to know that this classroom is a place that is fun and that they can learn in. I think with these simple improvements my students will be able to focus on reading and be more comfortable in the classroom. The reading nook chair will inspire the students to read more plus it will work as a reward for working hard in the classroom.
The film privacy will let in natural light but block the sun. It will help the students focus more instead of squinting and trying to move around the classroom avoiding the sun.
