My students need basic supplies including notebooks, a pencil sharpener, crayons, paper, and index cards that will enable them to complete their class and homework.
I teach second grade at a title one school. Over 90% of the students at our school are on free and reduced lunch. Our area has been hit drastically by the recent economic issues. This has had a very negative effect on our students' families. They are unable to spend money for the children's school supplies so I have been using up what supplies I have in my supply closet to make sure my students have the means to be successful students.
With budget cuts being enforced throughout the school systems the first money to go is for supplies. While I understand the reasoning, I also see the effects it has on the classroom. I am asking for help with making sure my students have what they need in order to complete assignments and assist in their daily learning, without causing their families any stress in having to find the means to supply them.
