Help me give my students glue sticks for our interactive literacy notebooks, primary writing journals for writing opportunities and pocket chairs to hold their supplies.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Hello!!! I work with children ages 5-6, that are challenged with a rigorous curriculum to empower their young minds, all while fostering various learning styles and academic capabilities. At this age, my scholars are like sponges and can soak up as much information as possible. Seeing their progress throughout the year, motivates me for the next school year. Unfortunately, most of my students come from low income households and struggle to meet the needs of school supplies that are needed for a successful school year.
My students absolutely love to learn; they discuss and share their information with peers and families, despite any hardship they may be facing.
Kindergarten is an awesome time to develop a love for learning and I'm blessed each year with a new set of scholars motivated to learn all they can before they promote to first grade.
My Project
So many times, scholars have come to class and been sad that they don't have materials needed to complete assignments. This interferes in their learning. I want to try and change that and increase their motivation to learn.
Education is not just academics, its behaviorial, too.
My goal is to collect these supplies to increase their pride in learning. Glue is a huge necessity used in my class to complete our interactive literacy notebooks and it goes very quickly in my class. This notebook teaches letters, sounds, and sight words. Children need regular and active interactions with print; therefore, the Mead Primary Journals allow my students to practice expressing themselves through written words and drawing. The pocket chairs are needed to help scholars with accountability and a sense of responsibility for their supplies.
I want to keep the focus on having fun while learning, not worrying about what supplies they don't have or need.
