Help me give my students supplies for our classroom! We desperately need cases for our earbuds, a place to put them in our classroom, a visual timer to help teach time management, and lanyards for our ID's.
My students mostly come from low-income families whose parents often had difficulty in school. They oftentimes do not have a love for reading and reading is very challenging for them. By the time they get to middle school, they have gone through numerous reading programs and continue to struggle. Their parents are struggling to get through their teenage years (because we all know middle school isn't easy emotionally) and academics become just plain difficult when you can't understand what you are reading. As a community, many of our students receive free and reduced lunch and oftentimes they have received services from the community to help them in life. Our students have the will to learn and want to learn. They want to be good readers and it's our job to ensure that happens!
My Project
These materials are crucial to their success in their reading program. Students are required to use earbuds when working in their intensive reading software. We have found that ours break very easily (we are middle schoolers after all!) without cases. These cases will be kept in the cell phone holders that are also on the list! This will allow them to have protective cases for their earbuds, as well as have them prepared for class each day. We also would like a visual timer to help us learn about time management and how to regulate that in the classroom with independent work.
