Classroom Supplies for COVID Relief

My Students

I have a second grade class of 27 kids this year. We are located in a suburban area about 20 miles south of Salt Lake City, Utah. Our school is only 3 years old and situated in a blossoming new up and coming area. My students are some of the hardest working children I’ve ever met. They are each so unique and individual. They bring with them loads of knowledge and experience that positively impact our classroom environment and the others students within our school.

COVID-19 has definitely left many repercussions with these students and we have a lot of students constantly playing "catch-up" because of skipped or misunderstood content over the last two years.

I would love to provide my students with resources that can help them close that gap as well as keep them healthy and safe.

My Project

These materials will all provide my students with the support they need both academically as well as help them with managing their social-emotional responses. These students have been through so much over the last 2 years that they don't know a normal school year. The setbacks of COVID-19 are very apparent within my classroom. One thing that I think is important is helping the kids academically fill the gap that has been caused by the pandemic. One way that we can help them is by providing my students with a good set of headphones to use with their Chromebooks to complete their online intervention programs. We have been using cheap headphones for the past few months and I feel like the majority of our computer work time is spent trying to navigate broken headphones that aren't working. Another way I'd love to support my kids is by providing them with books and resources to help navigate their emotions. I have put fidget toys, books, and strategic STEM materials in my project because these are great resources to help students when they are navigating anger, stress, and other emotions. I plan on making a calm down corner and putting all these resources in there for students who need a few minutes to calm down.
