Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This academic year, I have had the most exciting time using Chromebooks, watching students create, learn, and engage in Science. Last year we went full 'Google Classroom' and have been using our Chromebooks every week. I teach a population who was not even alive pre-touch screen and to integrate fun science lessons and activities in a medium to which they are so comfortable and engaged is very rewarding.
My students come from varied socio-economic backgrounds.
All are excited when we get out our Chromebooks. My goal is to capture all of their attention in science when they walk in to our room. I have found an enormous resource online, with activities and readings that keep our classroom a fun place to learn and explore the world of science in a way not before possible.
Recently, our community was damaged by wildfires. Our school was closed for a full 3 weeks. After thorough cleaning and disinfecting, we are able to return to our campus without any direct fire damage. My students deserve the resources to explore and discover an education in science, and make their learning experience truly 21st century.
My Project
Every day in my classes, I am greeted with a variety of needs by my students. The basic essentials for a successful day at school may be lacking by some families. I want to help all my students be prepared to learn, and have ample supplies available for any who need them.
My students need school supplies so they can all be successful.
These materials will make a difference in our classroom by providing much needed, day-to-day, items we go through regularly. Many of my students are in a category of 'high-need' and it would greatly help them, and myself, to have these pencils, sharpeners, markers, and pens available for my students free of charge.
