Classroom Studio Provides Virtual Learning
My students need 1 microphone.
After twenty-five years, I still enjoy learning to stay up-to-date with the latest technology for myself and the students. Technology now enables us to tear down the walls of the traditional classroom so that students can reinforce their learning to fit their schedules.
I teach in an AICE program that allows me a wide variety of teaching styles.
My students are in the 10th and 12th grade levels, and we area public high school in Florida. My students are involved in an advanced program and they come from all kinds of backgrounds and socioeconomic statuses.
Students miss school for a variety of reasons, many of the reasons are legitimate. Teachers new to the profession have their hands full with a variety of time consuming activities, some actually involve the art of teaching. Once a school year starts, learning content can become difficult for those new to the profession, so acquiring information from others can be a bonus. With 1 microphone, I will be able to record podcasts as well as audio-visual presentations that students and teachers alike will be able to access. I envision students using the finished products for reinforcement, reviews, or catching up with the missed content at home when they are absent from a day to much longer. I trust finished products can also be used by my colleagues due to a variety of reasons as well. Students will be able to access finished products anywhere they have access to the World Wide Web.
As instructors we have many concerns on our plate.
One responsibility that I feel is paramount is that I constantly teach to my students' future as opposed to my past. Today's students are bright, learn via differing modalities, but they all share something in common, they love technology. Additionally, many like to learn on very unfamiliar schedules as to when I was in high school. Luckily, today's technology can help with these needs assuming the teacher is up to the challenge, I am up for it.
