My students need these materials for our room transformations. We "flip" our classrooms throughout the year to match different themes and make learning exciting. For example, the black lights will be used in our "Spy Lab."
I teach in a Title I school. My students are a heterogeneous group of many different talents, intelligence, and abilities. Many of them come from difficult home environments and/or have very little support at home. They are all unique in many ways, but what they share in common is a love for knowledge.
These 5th graders are passionate and excited about learning.
They are a group of respectful students whom work hard to achieve their greatest potential. I'm excited to plan some very interactive and hands on lessons for this group.
My Project
By having these materials, I can do a classroom transformation. The classroom transformation will excite the students for the lesson before they even enter the room. For the "Spy Lab" I plan to wind the white yarn all around the room like laser beams and with the black lights, they will glow! As students determine the Main Idea, they unlock a secret code. Our secret codes will be recorded with permanent marker on post-its. Students then combine the secret codes to solve the mystery.
This will be a lesson they will never forget!
We will also be doing a "Circus" theme, "Harry Potter" theme, and an "Under the Sea" theme just to name a few. The themes make learning the skills more engaging and therefore encourage greater participation and results.
