Help me give my students a spruced up environment for spring! This project would help diffuse the harsh lights, provide organized storage for headphones or ear buds, and add flexible shelving for our classroom library.
Our classroom learning community is comprised of 28 students ages 9-12. Our district and school are one of the most culturally and linguistically diverse in the nation. Our public Montessori school is located in downtown Anchorage and serves children that come from the surrounding neighborhood, Joint-Base Elmendorf-Ft. Richardson, and from the entire city and nearby communities.
We are a caring, hardworking, and curious class who asks for your assistance in providing for our classroom needs.
My students love to ask questions and to research the answers to their questions. It's wonderful to look across the classroom and to see how excited and engaged they are about learning and their drive to impact our school, community, and world in positive and peaceful ways.
My students (on their own accord) have planned and carried out fundraisers to help other classes and our sister school in Malawi. They care deeply about the environment, climate change, politics, our community and world. They often break into respectful debate during work time. I truly believe I have the privilege of being surrounded by people who will have a positive impact on our world.
My Project
Our Montessori classroom is filled with flexible seating. During our work sessions our class works at a variety of levels (at standing stations, tables, and sitting on the floor), in partners and quietly on their own. These tables and shelves will help replace some of our pieced together furniture. Also, even if I turn on the overhead lights in our classroom, someone requests for just the lamps to be on. Our north facing windows don't always provide the best light during our dark Alaskan winters, I hope that these light diffusing flags will help make the bright overhead lights tolerable.
