My students are excited when they get to play instruments in my classroom. Currently, my 4th graders learn to play the recorder and LOVE it! I needed something that was going to continue their interest in music in 5th grade because I want them to stay involved in music as they get older.
My students live in a rural area and attend a small, Title 1 school.
They enjoy coming to music class, but most of them are not exposed to music other than when I see them once a week. Many of them struggle with reading or math and find that music class is one place where they can be successful.
My Project
The ukuleles you donate to our music classroom will benefit the 5th grade students throughout their year with me. We will use the instruments to learn about tuning, review music reading, experience harmony, and practice our singing and playing as an ensemble. Once students are comfortable playing the ukuleles, they will be asked to be creative and improvise or compose songs.
Your donation will bring huge smiles to the faces of these 5th grade students when they get to see and touch these ukuleles for the first time!
Learning to play the ukulele will surely spark a love for music that they will take with them to their secondary education experiences and beyond.
