My Students

The majority of the students at my school come from backgrounds and homes where their educations are valued by parents and guardians. In my second year of teaching, it's helpful to hear that what is being taught in the classroom is being supported at home. The students have a strong desire to succeed and work for the best grades, not allowing much to interfere as they are working to be at the top. The excitement that I feel from my students about reading and learning is infectious and it drives me to provide the best experiences for them that I can. It is also be refreshing to see how many students come to school on time, prepared to learn and get their work completed.

My Project

The City of Ember is a book that will engage my students' attention and keep them asking thought provoking questions about what they would do in a similar situation. I want to teach this book to my students because I want them to think of other possibilities of how life could look and expand their current habits of thinking.

Hopefully using this book will teach them the value of appreciating what they have.

A lot of students here have come from a comfortable home life and struggle to empathize with others that have less than they do. I think The City of Ember is a great book that will show them what life can be like for kids who aren't as lucky as they are to grow up in the circumstances that they currently live in.
