Ms. Wofford from Chicago IL is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
The cost of a classroom set of \"Niagara Falls, or Does It?\" is $244, including shipping and <a target="new" href="http://www.donorschoose.org/html/fulfillment.htm" onclick="g_openWindow('http://www.donorschoose.org/html/fulfillment.htm', 300, 800, 'fulfillwindow');return false;">fulfillment</a>.

As a second year sixth grade teacher at Claremont Academy, I have learned that children need to be exposed to quality reading materials. As I taught, and will teach, a self-contained classroom, I have had the luxury of working with students in all academic areas. Each morning we start our day reading. In doing so, I think it is important to give the children a great deal of time to read the books that they enjoy. I feel that if the books the children read are fun, entertaining, and substantive, the children will grow as readers and obtain a greater appreciation for reading. I am requesting that a donor would honor our sixth grade class with a classroom set of children\'s chapter books. This would benefit the students by allowing them to all read an exceptional novel at the same time. By having a classroom set, the children will be able to participate in learning activities related to the current novel. The children will be able to participate in classroom discussions related to literature, work on group projects of their choice, and all be exposed to different genres all at the same time. For this project (that can be repeated for years to come) I would require a set of classroom novels. As I am thinking, I could share these books with the other sixth grade teachers (if it is allowed by Donors Choose)! My classroom will have about 34 students. However, if I am allowed to share, about 100 students would greatly benefit from this generous donation. Again, I know that this would be a great opportunity to expose my students to wonderful literature opportunities. Living in a community where most children have less than five books in the home, this would turn the students on to different genres and authors. Thank you so much for consideration of funding my proposal.
