Classroom Set of Novels

My students need 30 copies of "Divergent" that will grab and keep their attention long enough to finish the story!

My Students

I want my students to understand the need to continue reading a book. Divergent is an enthralling story that will require higher order thinking skills that my students need to develop!

Throughout my four blocks of classes, I teach a group of students with a massively wide range of ability levels.

Although it usually takes much more effort on my part to impart the wisdom to the kids, once they latch onto a text, it is incredible how much they love the story!!

My Project

I am trying to purchase a set of "Divergent" novels for my class to read. Although they all read below grade level, they understand concepts very well. After reading "Divergent" I decided that this book would be great for getting my students thinking critically about other societies. The lives of the characters in the books are so different from how they live, yet they are so very similar in the relationships they build with each other. I hope that by reading this book with my students, I can open their view of society and allow them to understand that they don't live autonomously from the rest of the world.

Because of recent budget cuts in our school system, we have not been able to purchase new novels in a while and since I am a fairly new teacher, I really wanted my students to be able to read something that would interest them so they would fell a sense of ownership over the literature.
