Help me give my students a story of hard work. In this story Peak Marcello goes on an adventure to climb Mount Everest. What he learns is hard work and compassion for others.

My Students

In the northwest corner of New Mexico lives a mixture of cultures all assimilating into one classroom. We are at a six hundred student school that serves fourth to sixth graders. My students are one-third Native American, one-third Hispanic and one-third Anglo. However, their needs are all the same. They need better access to materials!

At our school, the students are in desperate need for regular school supplies, exciting books and most of all, technology!

The students come from extremely low SES homes, and do not have pencils at home that they can bring to school. Unfortunately, the school is unable to help in most cases. So, the teachers are in charge of supplying the missing supplies.

My Project

Peak is a story about overcoming. Peak Marcello overcomes a difficult adventure climbing Mount Everest. Peak also overcomes his selfish nature, and learns compassion.

This story teaches good lessons not only in compassion and hard work, but also in Mount Everest.

I want to use this book to teach reading, social studies, and science. By using this book to begin our learning, students will be more engaged. They will learn to love Peak Marcello and his adventure.

I know my students will not be able to put this book down. In my low SES area, students struggle with reading. A good book can be like ambrosia.
